Vision

At Grantlea Downs School, our vision for mathematics education is to inspire our students not only to understand mathematical concepts but also to develop a genuine love for mathematics. We aim to equip them with the ability to apply their knowledge effectively in real-life situations, fostering a deep understanding of when and how to use their mathematical skills.

Curriculum and Resources

Our maths teaching and learning is aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) for Mathematics and Statistics. This comprehensive framework shapes the scope and sequence of our mathematics program, ensuring that our students receive a wellrounded education.

Pr1me Mathematics

At Grantlea Downs, our primary resource for delivering mathematics lessons is the Pr1me Mathematics program. Pr1me provides structured guidance and support for teachers, helping to ensure consistent and effective delivery of mathematics education across all levels.

Supplementary Resources

To enrich our mathematics program, we supplement Pr1me with a variety of other resources. Rob Profit White's rich mathematics tasks are an integral part of our teaching and learning, offering engaging and challenging activities that enhance students' problem-solving skills. In addition, we utilise a diverse array of mathematics games, tasks, equipment, and resources, recognising the importance of offering varied learning experiences.

Daily Mathematics Instruction

Students at Grantlea Downs School engage in an hour of mathematics instruction each day. This dedicated time allows for focused learning and exploration of mathematical concepts. We also integrate mathematics into other subjects, such as art, to demonstrate the interconnectedness of knowledge and to provide opportunities for students to apply their mathematical understanding in creative contexts.
